AD Code (Authorised Dealer Code) is a 14-digit numerical code issued by a bank that is authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to deal in foreign exchange. It is mandatory for exporters in India to register their AD Code with the customs department through the ICEGATE portal before exporting goods from any port or airport.
Purpose of AD Code Registration
The AD Code helps the Customs department track the export transactions and ensure that foreign exchange earnings are received in India through legal banking channels. Without AD Code registration, exporters cannot generate Shipping Bills — a critical document required to clear goods for export.
